New Streetcars announce and display streetnames

Has anyone noticed the new (?) streetcars? They announce the stop name and display the streetnames. This is the first streetcar that I’ve been on that does that. Is this old news?

cool! i haven’t been on one yet. But a blind lawyer has been suing TTC for years for human rights violation (for not providing blind people notice of stop)

  2. ramanan says,

Any reason blind people don’t just ask the bus drivers to call out the stop they need? That seems like a low-tech solution.

  3. Jason says,

The guy sued in part because some drivers forgot to announce the stops (or they didn’t care to).

  4. tiff says,

it’s not equality if blind people have to do an extra thing (to ask the driver to announce it) when seeing people don’t need to. That’s the ground for the law suit.

Accessibility and equality claims can cost lots. Via rail lost a case in which a wheelchair-bound person successfully sued the train co. for not equipping their trains with wheel chair access.

Via Rail claims it would costs $48 million to $92 million to retrofit their trains. (sounds bogus)

You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google.
