- Toronto doctor smacks down U.S. Senate question on Canadian waitlist deaths.
“On average, how many Canadian patients on a waiting list die each year? Do you know?” Republican Senator Richard Burr asked at the end of a prickly exchange with Dr. Danielle Martin, vice president of Medical Affairs at Toronto’s Women’s College Hospital.
“I don’t, sir, but I know that there are 45,000 in America who die waiting because they don’t have insurance at all,” she said.
Booyaka! Booyaka!

- This One's for Me.
#A lot of people have wondered what in the hell I’ve been up to since I shipped my book in 2012. People think I’m being lazy, like I’m riding a wave of money and not working. I suppose I haven’t been working that much, but unfortunately, there is no wave of money. Usually, it is best not to jump into criticisms, and to let people think what they think, but I’d like to explain myself. Basically, everyone in my family died of cancer. Maybe I should step back a bit.
- YouTube. FIRST KISS.
A film by Tatia Pllieva. She asked 20 strangers to kiss for the first time, filmed what took place. (Can you kiss for the second time and still be strangers?)

- Choosing Secure Passwords.
I use 1Password (which is amazing) to store all my passwords. After making the switch to that program I no longer repeat passwords. I actually don’t know the passwords to most of the sites I log in to, they all look like some variation of this: kfovwdzxiXYEkyH9b6YBKbEjgcbCGT.

- Cloudwash.
A surprisingly interesting look at what a “smart” washing machine might look like. The people at Berg internet enabled an existing washing machine and it’s pretty cool.

- Yahoo webcam images from millions of users intercepted by GCHQ.
Sexually explicit webcam material proved to be a particular problem for GCHQ, as one document delicately put it: “Unfortunately … it would appear that a surprising number of people use webcam conversations to show intimate parts of their body to the other person. Also, the fact that the Yahoo software allows more than one person to view a webcam stream without necessarily sending a reciprocal stream means that it appears sometimes to be used for broadcasting pornography.” The document estimates that between 3% and 11% of the Yahoo webcam imagery harvested by GCHQ contains “undesirable nudity”.
I’m curious what would constitute desirable nudity to the GCHQ.
