Blatchford - Whose Rights Are Really Being Trampled? ⇒
12 May 2009, lunch time
Christie Blatchford is the Globe's lame version of DiManno. (Or maybe that goes the other way around?) Most of the article is thinly veiled racism and a discussion on what constitutes a 'real' Canadian. I'm guessing "real" Canadians are White. And they protest by writing comments at the bottom of Globe and Mail articles. Update: And the response is HYPE.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
Man. She sucks. I’m feeling pretty embarassed to be a Canadian these days, hearing the bullshit hateful comments everywhere and trolls like Blatchford and all the ogres at the Sun.

She usually writes crap. I manage to avoid her writing until someone links to it. I still think DiManno is worse, in that she’s also a really crappy writer.

“Are the Tamils merely exercising their rights or have they somehow breached the covenant, unwritten but understood, they have or ought to have made with their new country?”
Reading pieces like this reminds me why I can’t feel safe under my skin. I don’t know what this unwritten covenant entails. Maybe she means to say that there is a one-way obligation owed by citizens of visible minority status. As an immigrant I will have to “earn” my rights by obeying the status quo, or I risk violating my “obligation” to my new country.
I thought each citizen, regardless of how their citizenship came to be, owes each other a mutual obligation to hear each other out. That’s why Blatchford has a column in the paper. And that’s why any Canadian can protest about anything they want.
