A painting of me

Tiff on Gentrification. ⇒

   20 April 2007, early morning

I agree with a lot of Tiff's sentiment, though I think she's being a bit harsh to Active18. That said, I think it is disingenuous that they lament the changes a new condo will bring to the area, when their presence in the neighbourhood has probably changed the place far more than these two or three new condos ever will. When my cousin lived out in Queen West it was totally different. The Queen West they are trying to "protect" isn't the same Queen West I remember from high school -- the one we wouldn't really venture out to since it was such a dump. Neighbourhoods change organically over time. (I wrote a while back about our brief brush with an old patron of the Drake.)

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
