- India Wins 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Photos from this years World Cup. Sri Lanka made it to the finals again, but lost to India. It was a pretty close game. Sri Lanka really needed to take a few more wickets earlier in the game. It was Muralitharan’s last game, which is a shame. (Though, he retires as the best bowler ever, so he’s probably doing alright.)

Leaside is getting a subway! And that’s about it. Though based on the results of the last election, Etobicoke and Scarborough were both pretty gung-ho for the new mayor. Maybe more buses on Finch is what they really wanted.

- Wren Jones.
One of the co-founders of Dreamhost (where I host this blog) shared the story about the death of his son, who died 11 hours after he was born. He died of a Group B Strep infection (GBS). The article is depressing, but informative if you are planning on having a home birth. It’s extra depressing if you are familiar with GBS, because it’s probably close to 100% preventable. (Normally the mother would be given an IV of antibiotics if she tested positive for GBS in her vagina near the end of her pregnancy. More so, if you go into labour early and your strep test hasn’t come back yet hospitals will administer GBS antibiotics anyway just to be safe.) People can be pretty passionate about child birth and hospitals, but I think it’s basically crazy not to have your baby in a hospital. There are so many things that can go wrong during a delivery. If this article wasn’t enough of a downer for you, I found what he wrote on his personal site pretty heart-wrenching: one year dead.
