- Diversity at city hall no longer our strength.
The Fords, for reasons which require no further explanation, fervently believe in what might be called a de-meritocracy: surrounding themselves with the most pliable and under-performing members of council. That the majority seems to be men doesn’t speak so well about the males on council. But the habit is born of a compulsion to boss around that dwindling collection of lackeys who are still willing to do their bidding.
There are now no women on the executive committee. The headline doesn’t seem to match the contents of the actual article. Was “diversity at city hall” ever a strength of our city council?

- What has Doug Ford done for his ward? Apparently very little.
Hard to feel sympathy for the ward that elected the idiot. He is the worst.

- Awful Greek words that apply to “The Rains of Castamereâ€.
Spoiler heavy analysis of the infamous penultimate episode of season 3 of Game of Thrones. I really need to get caught up with the TV series. They are clearly doing an amazing job turning the books into television.

# [3]Life was even more confusing for my brother. He was born with blond, curly hair and bright blue eyes. He looked nothing like my mom. When they were alone together, well, that’s when shit got real. The white mothers in my neighborhood not only assumed my mom was my brother’s nanny, but they inquired after her services.

- Yoleo.
Made in Toronto, this might be the feed reader you want to use to replace Google Reader. It doesn’t sync with Reeder though, so i’m not sure it’s for me. I also prefer the “river of news” flow of Google Reader. That said, this looks amazing and works quite well. My old co-worker Mustafa apparently helped with some of the UX.

- We're playing D&D!
I’ve been running a D&D blog for a year now. To mark the occasion I thought i’d write about how I started playing D&D again, and found an old email thread where my friend Dave brings up the idea of playing (the then new) 4th Edition of D&D.

- Yitang Zhang Proves 'Landmark' Theorem in Distribution of Prime Numbers.
Rumors swept through the mathematics community that a great advance had been made by a researcher no one seemed to know — someone whose talents had been so overlooked after he earned his doctorate in 1991 that he had found it difficult to get an academic job, working for several years as an accountant and even in a Subway sandwich shop.
This is an incredible story.

- Love is better than a ring.
This popped up on my Twitter feed recently, but it’s an old post by Leftsider from 2009. It was on his mind again because of this other recent post of his on relationships. A part of me feels he’s done a good job writing about (successful) arranged marriages without knowing it.
