My coworker lives in the area and mentioned this story. It’s nice to see people being neighbourly. When I lived in the condo (our now friends) Mel and Anthony from France put posters up on our floor inviting people over to their place for a “we just moved in” party. I couldn’t go, but I told Shima she had to: that sort of thing seems so uncommon in Toronto to not participate.

The Fords, for reasons which require no further explanation, fervently believe in what might be called a de-meritocracy: surrounding themselves with the most pliable and under-performing members of council. That the majority seems to be men doesn’t speak so well about the males on council. But the habit is born of a compulsion to boss around that dwindling collection of lackeys who are still willing to do their bidding.
There are now no women on the executive committee. The headline doesn’t seem to match the contents of the actual article. Was “diversity at city hall” ever a strength of our city council?
