- Plan in the works to redesign King Street — and quickly.
It basically took King Street being a total mess in the mornings for any movement to happen here. The city needs to be more proactive.

- The Sorry Legacy of Internet Explorer.
The last sentence sums it up: “Microsoft can’t undo the the damage it did, but it can end the madness.” Fixing bugs in IE8 has been the worst part of working on a web application being sold to large corporations.

- Canada: A nation of winter wusses.
Canadians continued to brave the elements for generations. Not even a power outage during the 1956 ice storm in P.E.I. could stop Tryon Consolidated School from educating its charges; it could still be kept warm with a wood stove. Cape Traverse local Joe MacDonald was so adamant about getting his two kids to class that he carried them, one child under each arm, as he skated to school.
This article is awesome and hilarious.

- The Website Obesity Crisis.
Let’s preserve the web as the hypertext medium it is, the only thing of its kind in the world, and not turn it into another medium for consumption, like we have so many examples of already.Let’s commit to the idea that as computers get faster, and as networks get faster, the web should also get faster.Let’s not allow the panicked dinosaurs of online publishing to trample us as they stampede away from the meteor. Instead, let’s hide in our holes and watch nature take its beautiful course. Most importantly, let’s break the back of the online surveillance establishment that threatens not just our livelihood, but our liberty. Not only here in Australia, but in America, Europe, the UK—in every free country where the idea of permanent, total surveillance sounded like bad science fiction even ten years ago.
Maciej Cegłowski talks about the internet, and of course it is good.

- The Racism Beat.
#Imagine an editor asking a writer to passionately articulate why a drunk driver hitting and killing a boy on a bicycle is wrong and sad. That would never happen, because a drunk driver killing a boy on a bike is a self-evident tragedy. Asking a writer to exert lots of effort to explain why would be a disservice to the dead, as if his right to life were ever in question, as if our moral obligation to not snuff out our fellow citizens via recklessness were something in need of an eloquent plea.
- In Liberty Village, here comes the neighbourhood.
“This idea that families only live in homes is a very North American, space-based weirdness.” There are few things better in life than a short commute. Still, as the article notes, a lot of our super-dense neighbourhoods lack basic amenities for families. They are seemingly built to be multi building frat houses.

- The Year in Coming Close.
When I hysterically wept in the back of a cab after the Jays lost their final shot at a 2015 World Series, it was of course because I really wanted them to win, but it was also because I didn’t know how to be upset about not being able to have a baby.

- The sad economics of being famous on the internet.
#One week, I was stopped for photos six times while perusing comic books in downtown L.A. The next week, I sat faceless in a room of 40 people vying for a menial courier job. I’ve walked a red carpet with $80 in my bank account. Popular YouTube musician Meghan Tonjes said she performed on Vidcon’s MainStage this year to screaming, crying fans without knowing whether she’d be able to afford groceries.

- Abigail Fisher deserves an ‘F’ for her race-baiting Supreme Court case aimed at boosting subpar white students.
Fisher’s case only makes sense if you assume that people of color are inherently less worthy than white people. How else do you justify an argument that assumes that every white person should have been given a shot before minority students do?
Won’t someone think of the mediocre White girls!
