A painting of me

The TTC is going to get rid of the free parking perk for metropass holders. ⇒

This doesn't seem like a good idea. Tiff points out that the only reason she buys a metropass is for the free parking.

  1. Don’t shoot me, but really $2-$6 a day doesn’t seem that bad, does it? How much do most people spend on coffee every day? I bet at least $2. And wouldn’t it be more expensive for people to drive downtown and pay the downtown parking prices?

One would hope that the TTC takes the extra money and put it towards more frequent bus services.

  2. Taking the bus sucks though. Who wants to do that? Anyway, Giambrone is probably right that driving and parking at the stations is probably not a sustainable model if they want to increase ridership.

  3. yeah $2-6 dollars for parking isn’t that bad, but add $110 a month to those passes then it’s not really worth the metropass. I wonder who will buy the metropasses now, if it’s not even feasible for people like me who do park and take the ttc every day.

I think a lot of the 905 people will just suck it up and take the GO train where there’s free parking and faster service during rush hour.

  4. I think moving people off the TTC and onto the GO isn’t that bad a situation though. I don’t think the TTC needs to be the be all end all for public transit. It’d be good if there were viable ways to get around that didn’t involve trying to fit everyone in Toronto on to one of two subway lines.

If you take the TTC more than 2 times a day, the Metropass is still the way to go. It just won’t make sense for anyone who was using it for parking. I’m not sure that’s a sizable chunk of the metropass user base though.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
