All the (little tiny) single ladies. ⇒

I disagree with Radmila's take on this: I think little girls have always liked to dance. Beyonce's dancing may be sexy and sexual, but a little girl mimicking her is not. Also, this is awesome.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
Oh, don’t misunderstand me..it’s cute.
I was commenting on what I see in the schoolyard every day.
Girls hardly play anymore (skipping/tag/Etc)…they form lines and mimic Beyonce and other popular videos as a group.
They hardly “play” anymore.
It’s sad for me to see that kind of competition so early.
There’s plenty of time for girls to worry about being “sexy”, and getting the attention of boys… it doesn’t have to be when they’re 8 and 9 years old.

Do you think girls are actively competing for boys though? Are they even aware sexiness is an element to the video? I think when we see this video we probably pick up on different things than a little girl or boy. I don’t actually work at a school though, so I am just talking out of my ass here. hah.

It’s not the video I’m on about.
I don’t think the little girls in the schoolyard are intentionally being sexual.
But, little girls love attention..and at that age, it’s hard to tell the difference between appropriate and inappropriate attention…and the importance of the attention of boys is something that is all around us, on tv and in magazines, and in videos…
But, listen…it’s a different world than when I was growing up in the seventies. All I know is that it appears more complicated to be a kid now than it used to be…and I find that incredibly sad.
