I caught the simpsons reference (Homer creates his own religion, house catches on fire, reverend lovejoy says the line in the simpson house), but I am saying where do buddhists lie in that statement? Are christianity, islam, hinduism, and judaism the only religions with the concept of a god?

I think he was just naming a few religions. I mean, he could have kept going, but at some point it is ridiculous. Also, some Buddhists worship Buddha as if he was a god.

I was pretty impressed that he mentioned non-believers as well. But then he still went on to mention God in his speech, so that sort of took away from the atheist-love. Also, the phrase “non-believer” irritates me for some reason. It’s like calling Hindus the “non-Christians”.

There is a shit load of God in the inauguration. I can’t believe they pray before they do the ceremony. WTF?

I understand the irritation, but I suspect “non-believer” was selected because it includes both atheists and agnostics. Of course, I haven’t actually heard the speech so what do I know…

and believe it or not, there’s now a course at school called “law and religion in the public sphere” where religious people talk about how secularism hates them.
We studied one of Obama’s speech on the very issue in our last class.
