"Recession Budget" Calls For Tax Increase. ⇒
11 February 2009, mid-morning
The increase amounts to almost nothing. I think if you have a $400,000 you'll pay an extra $100 a year, or there abouts. It is interesting to see how it comes off though in the news. That said, Miller has been a disappointing mayor. We need serious vision for the city, and people who can get stuff done. Our current city hall isn't doing that.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
why’s everyone so upset at the city’s tax hike when our property assessment from MPAC came out more than half a year ago?
Remember: property tax = municipal tax rate X MPAC assessment. MPAC assessment is what people should really be concerned about.
Our home for instance, so was assessed at 40% more than its 2005 assessed value. The cited reason in general for the outrageous raise was because MPAC froze property tax rates in the past few years. Coincidentally, the past few years were when real estate prices shot through the roof.
But I can say this much, when my family inquired about selling our home last year, the quoted ceiling price that we could sell for was no where close to our assessed value.
Not quite sure which market value MPAC was using.
What’s more bothersome is that MPAC has already assessed our home for the next 5 years. If you don’t appeal the assessment now, you will be affected for 5 years.
The deadline to file for reconsideration is in March. You must have filed for a reconsideration before you can appeal the assessment.
The reconsideration request can be done online if you login to the online property tax profile using your assessment roll.
