Bringing Fibre to Toronto. ⇒

   10 March 2009, early morning

The BlogTO article seems a bit clueless: how can you write an article about high speed internet in Toronto and not be aware of the set up in Cityplace?

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. interesting conversation/details unfolding in the article comments.

fwiw, apparently bell is on to the mlppp/multilink ‘workaround’ and going to be implementing DPI soon to deal with it.

I await the day when wireless (5G?) speeds will surpass the cable/DSL infrastructure and we’ll have always on / always fast internet everywhere (although it will be still provided by the ‘Big 3’ carriers)

Also, Ram, you swear like a sailor in those BlogTO comments.

  2. Yeah, I linked to the article because the comments were pretty informative. There are people talking about building the Cityplace infrastructure, about 360 Networks, etc. I’m not sure what needs to happen for Toronto to get better wired and wireless internet service. Wasn’t HydroOne supposed to offer highspeed wired and wireless internet?

And yeah, sometimes I swear a lot. I used to talk like a sailor all the time. Oh, those were the days.

  3. I like how the author refers to 100Mb/s as “paltry”. 125kB/s isn’t super-crazy-fast, but even in 2009, it’s not “paltry” by any means.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
