Are the protests about civilian loss of life, or advertising for the LTTE? (I guess it's a bit of both.) Torontoist has more photos from last night. A lady who wandered by late at night gives an account of what she saw in the comments.

  1. One of the several astounding things about the protest is that it is a huge group of brown people surrounded by a whole bunch of white male cops. As I was walking by it occurred to me that I rarely see such large undiluted groups of white men in Toronto.

    Does the police force only hire white men? Shouldn’t they send in the brown cops to beat down the brown protesters? Sending in only white cops seems like bad form. Have the demographics of the police changed at all since the fifties? I’m sure that protesters, gang members and petty criminals have all made an effort to diversify their membership. The police should try to keep up.
