  1. The first time I ever went to Don Mills Centre was in grade 11 before I went into planning and learnt all about the planning rationale behind the planned neighbourhood. The one thing that stood out to me was the number of elderly sitting in groups and chatting. It really felt like a big community centre. As good as the new centre is I don’t think it can ever be the same, especially in the winter, for the many seniors that used the centre as a social gathering place.
I’d like to go back and check it out though. I remember the parking garage came up for a minor variance in one of my meetings.

  2. I agree with Shima. I worked at the centre for many years, and it was always a place for the older members of the community to get together or simply have somewhere to go. Rain, snow, they would be there. Right now it doesn’t seem to offer the same kind of gathering space that the old centre used to (although that could change over time). As usual, I’m seeing spaces built for the sake of the architecture and not for the people who would use it. I guess when you ‘phase out the old’ it applies to people as well…

  4. And now BlogTO chimes in.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
