A painting of me

Double-Double, Day of Trouble. ⇒

   11 August 2009, late morning

A Tim Horton store offered to sponsor an anti-gay marriage even in Rhode Island. How did they not see this blowing up in their face?

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. It was a franchisee that sponsored the event not a corporate store. I assume that by the time head office got wind of what the franchisee was doing, it was already a media bone.

It’s at that time that they whipped out the agreement that he/she signed with the corporation.

I understand that Tim Hortons does not sponsor, endorse or make donations to political groups, religious organizations, or lobby groups.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the franchisee won’t suffer the consequences in the long run for the position he put the corporation in.

  2. I updated the link description to be more clear. It’s amazing how quickly stuff like this gets found out about, turned into a shit storm, and gets finally dealt with.

  3. It’s also amazing to me how people who buy into large corporations still think that they can do whatever they want to do, without reading what they agreed to in order to use the name of that corp.

I’m sure that organization thought they got a nice big endorsement.

I heard people arguing that Tim Hortons had kiosks at the Pride Parade, and they were making the comparison saying that the company appears to have taken a side…but, the kiosks were selling coffee, not sponsoring the event and giving coffee away.

    They were doing business.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
