The Answer Factory: Demand Media and the Fast, Disposable, and Profitable as Hell Media Model ⇒

   10 November 2009, late morning

Demand Media uses a computer algorithm to decide what sorts of articles or videos to produce. “You can take something that is thought of as a creative process and turn it into a manufacturing process.” It farms that work out to an army of free lancers, who do the work on the cheap. It then puts them online, runs ads, and makes a shit load of money. This is incredible and bizarre.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
