A painting of me

The Atlantic doesn’t get blogging. ⇒

   1 March 2010, lunch time

It seems most everyone is unhappy with the Atlantic’s redesign. I think it’s instructive to compare the Atlantic’s site with Harper’s. As magazines I think they are a bit similar, but their web presence couldn’t be more different. I prefer what Harper’s is doing. Their site is a lot more straight forward and clean.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. I think Harper’s manages to be so simple because they have committed so little to their web presence. The Atlantic, on the other hand, has this small army of committed bloggers and the money to bother with a site redesign.

You can skim a week’s worth of Harper’s posts in 30 minutes…it would take a day to do the same with the Atlantic. Harper’s archive is another story though.

Anyway, judging from the feedback, a re-redesign isn’t far away.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
