Menezes taught be classical algebra and the two cryptography classes I took at University. He can be a funny guy. A discussion of the article and breaking provably secure crypto systems. If you’re interested in the math behind public-key cryptography, Neal Koblitz wrote a very terse text on the subject I think is quite good called A Course in Number Theory and Cryptography.
