Steve Job's Thoughts on Flash. ⇒

   30 April 2010, mid-morning

The back and forth between Adobe and Apple over Flash heated up yesterday when Steve Jobs posted a message on Apple’s web site, discussing his reasons for wanting to keep Flash off the iPhone and iPad. Tyler points out that his comment on cross-platform products is a little ironic. John Gruber’s earlier discussion about Flash on the iPhone is worth a read, if only because he makes a few points that Steve Job’s dances around. Ultimately, Apple doesn’t need Flash on their phones. They have been selling a ton of them without supporting Flash. Once in a blue moon i’ll come across a site that doesn’t work on my phone, but if I had to choose between an iPhone and Flash, i’m going to choose the iPhone. I think the vast majority of people will as well. People producing websites are moving their content from Flash to various open web-standards like HTML5 and its associated new technologies. If I was Adobe i’d start working on tools for authoring HTML5 content. That’s the future, and it’s not like they don’t have experience with this sort of thing.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
