A painting of me

A tale of two Torontos. ⇒

   10 November 2010, early morning

It starts of obnoxious, but as you read on you can see where she is going with that. Rob Ford’s win really does feel like the result or reward for liberal hubris. Like many people, I was more or less elated Rob Ford was running because it meant he wouldn’t be a city councilor anymore. There was no way in my mind someone such as him could actually win the mayorship. Now we have two Ford’s on city council. The next four years are a time for reflection and regrouping. They aren’t a time to figure out how to carve downtown from the rest of the city.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not the end of the world. Ford isn’t going to be able to do the things he wants to do. He’s still got an entire council to get past. It’s not going to be as easy as so many downtowners think. I hate that so many people get melodramatic about it.

  2. Definitely. Its not like the city hasn’t had shitty mayors before. And our city council is consistently uninspiring.

Still. He’s such an asshole.. It disappoints me that he’s who the city elected. If you think Miller is a left wing commie, fine. Vote for a serious ass conservative. Voting for Ford is just one big Fuck You to everyone.

  3. Perhaps it’s because Toronto has always functioned at extremes. Hall/Lastman and now Miller/Ford.
It’s just how Toronto rolls. Apathetic until it becomes ridiculous, and then whipping the pendulum in anger.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
