Iran Scan: Mao Suits to Fade. ⇒

   17 June 2005, lunch time

"Despite all the early polls indicating a Rafsanjani win there are some very strong signs especially in blogosphere that Moeen the reformist candidate may end up as the winner." I think this is a stupid statement for a lot of reasons, but mostly because the blogosphere probably isn't the best gauge of the sentiments of all of Iran. Mind you, I get the impression that the media in Iran is far from unbiased. We'll have to wait and see how things turn out.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. I was under the impression that Rafsanjani was a shoo-in. But we can all hope.

Another thing I learned today is that the voting age in Iran is 15! Comeon 15 year olds, here is a chance to write your own destiny!

Speaking of all things Iran, I also learned today that half of the team behind MSN Spaces, the webapp that M$ hopes kicks Blogger’s behind is Persian! Meet Sanaz Ahari.

I also found out that the duo behind Deep Dish are also Iranian Americans! I have been a fan of their stuff for a while but had no idea. They are coming to Adelaide!

So yeah, Iran has been on my mind.

  2. I was just about to link to her web page, but I thought I have been linking to too many Persian things today. Not that Shima would complain.

    Deep Dish are Iranian? Crazy.

It’s hard to say what people are actually thinking in Iran. Seems like there aren’t any good sources for information. Rafsanjani has such strong ties to the old gaurd, to Khomeini. I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing for most Iranians. (He was also apparently one of the big figures on the Iranian side of the Iran-Contra affair.)

  3. Correction: Sanaz Ahari is part of a skunkworks team that has built a cool webbased content aggregator. That is obviously different from MSN Spaces which is a blogging tool.

This neat piece of work is available at Start.

    Sorry for being off-topic.

  4. Do you believe me now about Persians and their big noses!? (yes, I have a big nose too.. therefore I can totally make fun of other Persians with big noses. I bet she’s from Shomal) ha ha ha..

Actually I don’t mind anything Persian unless it’s politics, cuz I don’t care to be bothered with that stuff too much anymore, I’ve seen where it’s gotten too many people, and well I rather not be going there.

  5. Anti-Syrian alliance wins the elections in Lebanon.

    Kick ass!

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
