Music Blogs Caught Up in Labels’ Online Piracy Fight. ⇒

You may think you own your domain and your online presence, but things aren’t so simple. The DHS ordered Verisign to essentially hijack the domains at the DNS level. This story is related in many ways to the response to WikiLeaks. Amazon wouldn’t host them. The DNS provider EveryDNS stopped resolving their domain names. I read the situation described as people thinking they were protesting on the streets, when in reality they were protesting in a mall. The Internet is like Dundas Square: it feels like public space, but in reality it is basically private.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
