Android Isn’t About Building a Mobile Platform. ⇒

Android isn’t an attempt to build the best mobile platform and sell it on its merits; it’s a play to control the vast majority of the mobile market, secure eyeballs for Google advertising and eliminate any threat to Google.
A lot of people approach Google as an advertising company first when looking to criticize what they do. I think this is a fair approach, but there is a much more optimistic take on what they do which my friend Patrick wrote about some time ago:
I, however, still liken [Google] to Ferrari in that Ferrari is a racing company that sells cars to fund their racing. Google sells ads to fund their
search enginetechnology related desires.
