Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior. ⇒

Amy Chua discusses how she is raising her daughters. This thread, like all MetaFilter threads that don’t involve White protagonists, is hilarious and awesome. More so, the article itself is hilarious and awesome: it’s such troll bait. I’m sure many people will find her parenting style deeply offensive and abusive.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
The comments are hilarious. Many people missed the writers point entirely.

Apparently the actual book is about how she moved away from this style of parenting to something a bit less intense, once her daughter started rebelling. The excerpt is clearly about trying to get people riled up and interested in the book.

Also, that thread makes me want to beat any future children I have out of spite.

LOL…I’m old school.
My stepkids came out well with my husbands old school ways.
After almost 20 years teaching, and observing… it’s clear to me that “new age” parenting is a massive failure.
The writer should consider a middle ground lest she eat her words when her kids hit their teens.

A good follow-up article on this excerpt and its controversy.
