Iran car explosion kills nuclear scientist in Tehran. ⇒

   11 January 2012, mid-morning

Could you imagine if Iran was killing American University professors. I would imagine that wouldn’t go over well. Of course, this dude wasn’t blown up by the US government.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. I would guess strongly that it was Israel. I had a long discussion about this yesterday. I don’t think the US govt would engage in direct acts of violence against Iran (sabotage of computers in nuclear facilities yes, car bomb assassinations no). The thing is, in order for there to be war with Iran, Iran has to be the aggressor. Nothing else will fly. If Israel attacks and the US backs them, I think we see World War III. I think of you wanted to see Persians and Arabs united in a way that dumbass Americans already think they are (we can’t tell the difference – sigh), then having the US side with Israel in going to war would be the best way to do it.

There are crazies in my country who want war with Iran. They are cavalier about war, ignorant about Islam, and dangerous. But at the highest levels, I think everyone knows you need a Gulf of Tonkin kind of “incident” to justify such a war without turning the world against us.

And it all just makes me sad. Coworkers look at me like I have three heads when I mention that I love Iran, Persian culture and, of course, Persian women.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
