A painting of me

Toronto Unlimited. ⇒

   5 July 2005, early evening

Am I the only person who likes the logo? (Of course, this whole branding idea seems like a huge waste of money.)

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. The logo is not bad. I think it would look a lot better sans gradient. I also don’t know how I feel about Toronto trying to be the city of unlimited possibilities. Unlimited nationalities is more like it.

  2. I like to logo very much, it actually caught my eye the last time I was on the subway… but you already knew that cuz I told you about it.. he he he. :)

  3. One could also argue that the ROM and OCAD additions are a huge waste of money; they’re doing the same thing as this add campaign (putting Toronto on the world map) but at a larger scale.

  4. But in the cases you bring up the money is going to something less vacuous than ‘branding’. Does Toronto need brand recognition? I have my doubts, but I am no expert in the tourism field.

  5. Is vacuous the word of the day or something?

  6. How is branding more vacuous?

Word on the street is that the ROM had to stop/slow down their construction plans because they are having a hard time funding such a huge project.

  7. I like the logo, but the slogan is ultra-lame. It’s no “Virginia is for lovers” or “I Love NY,” that’s for sure. Plus a lot of the ads I’ve seen have spelling mistakes or bad grammar. Sloppy.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
