I don’t quite understand why this is such a big story. Shouldn’t women be allowed to have abortions regardless of the reason? Or should they have their reasons reviewed by a citizen’s committee deciding whether it is appropriate?

That’s the rub, right. Most people who are going to argue against sex selection are probably the same people arguing for women to have full control over access to abortions. I’m sure it’s discussed in a medical ethics class or something.
