A painting of me

This site is amazing. You tell it the names of bands you like and it picks songs you'll like, and then plays them for you. It seems to do a really good job of picking music. This link was found via Award Tour.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. Nice!

  2. I don’t know what artists/songs you were entering, but I can’t even rationalize how it was choosing songs for me. Either their catalogue is not as voluminous for some genres, or they’re really trying to expand your horizons.

  3. There’s usually a short description of the criteria it used to suggest each song.

  4. I did it. It was pretty good but I wish I had realized that you can only skip so many songs in an hour, because if you list Tool it plays all this shitty metal that is no good.

  5. The song descriptions were inarguable, but I do not think the criteria used was sufficient given the songs or artists I had tried.

My favourite description had to be “repetitive song structure”. What songs don’t have a repetitive structure?

Personally, I think Audioscrobbler (now Last.FM) does a better job.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
