Damn those fundamental human rights! Damn them to hell!
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
A “veto” (threat) certainly demonstrates the administration’s lack of values. However, the US Senate ratified the 4th Geneva Convention in 1955. (So according the US constitution, it is also the “supreme law of the land”). i.e. The US government is already bound to abide by the treaty by both US and international law.
[Some country called Nauru is the only one who hasn’t ratified the Geneva Conventions.
The US has failed to endorse the 1977 1st Protocol and 2nd Protocols because they, apparently, don’t believe in protecting the victims of international and non-international arm conflicts. Only 30 countries haven’t endorsed the 1st Protocol (but the US is the only noteworthy absence). Only 34 countries haven’t endorsed the 2nd Protocol (with the other noteworthy absenses being China, France, Israel, and Pakistan)]. [1]
