On Monday I read that the entire World uses about 72 million barrels of oil a day. The US uses 22 million of those barrels. (Automotive) vehicles in the US use 9 million of those barrels. That means 12.5% of the World’s oil use goes to just fueling car/truck/SUV needs in the US. (In contrast all of Europe and Canada use on 8.8 million barrels for their entire economies, not just their cars, despite having twice as many people and more land area).

That is amazing, though I suppose not too surprising. I see America as the great consumer. I wonder where India and China will be with respect to these sorts of stats in the next few years. Hopefully either country makes progress on producing more bio-friendly alternative fuels.

The article (it was in the newspaper, so I can’t provide a link) said that India & China together use about 8.4 million barrels per day. (It didn’t include the derivative though)
