The Huffington Post: NBC/WSJ Poll finds African-Americans Give President Bush A Positive Rating. ⇒

14 October 2005, the wee hours

Ju-Lian passed this little tid-bit of new on to me. 2%? Let us say for the sake of argument the margin of error is 6%, which is quite high, a 8% approval rating also sucks a lot. Damn.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. The original article says The poll, based on interviews with 807 adults, was conducted between October 8 and October 10 and had a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. But this was just random Americans being asked about politics. Not African-Americans.

Assuming the poll was a perfect sample of US demographics (which I highly doubt) then 12.9% * 807 = 104 African-Americans were surveyed. Which means the margin of error would be massive – easily in the double digits. (I’m too lazy to work it out).

(The 3.4% margin of error is only applicable to the stats derived from all 807 surveyees – and even 807 people is too small a sample size).

  2. Nice work Ryan. It pays to know people who didn’t forget all the stats they were forced to take in University.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
