Schneier on Security: Australia's New Anti-Terrorism Legislation. ⇒
27 October 2005, early evening
Some scary new rules in the works for Australia. I have to wonder where these politicians get their ideas from? Iran? Syria? The US?
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
Yeah it’s getting press here, my fav rule is the “Shoot first, ask questions later lol” amendment. PM John Howard reminds me a lot of George Bush, and that ain’t a compliment.

Believe it or not, the shoot to kill actually exists in most states, particularly Queensland and Victoria. But the Premiers of those states are actually voicing their dissatisfaction when it is being turned into a commonwealth law!
BTW, Howard is nothing like Bush. He is not driven by religion and is very much a centrist.
Yesterday, the federal government admitted that some sort of compromise is needed in the bill (which means he doesn’t have the support of the states who are all controlled by the opposing Labor party). Most likely it will be going in front of the High court who will probably sign it off because there is a precedent.
There would be more opposition to this if the Federal Labor party had some guts like their counterparts in the states. But they are wankers. There is another bill coming up along with the anti-terrorism bill which deals with creating simpler labor and workplace laws. Federal Labor is taking that fight. Told you that the left never cares for people’s rights!
