Sri Lanka Candidate Offers Cows if Elected. ⇒

That's a strange election promise. This link was found via Sunny.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
It has to be one of the most original electional promises ever.
This sort of thing is quite common in India. People are promised televisions, fridges etc to vote. Usually in western countries its only the rich that vote. In India it is the opposite. The poor come out in large numbers to exercise their right, usually fuelled by practical yet strange promises by politicians.

“Besides Hettigoda is the only contender in this race who has engaged in some out of the box thinking rather than plodding long beaten tracks. Instead of re-cycling old arrack in new bottles like most of the other candidates , Hettigoda has indulged in constructive, original thought about resolving the national question. Unlike Rajapakse or Wickremasinghe the man has been bold enought to state those views clearly.”

Thanks for the story. The article does give a lot of good insight into the man. He sounds a fair bit like Ross Perot, as the article pointed out. Doomed to fail, quirky, and pragmatic.
