A painting of me

Macworld: A dim view of Spotlight. ⇒

   23 November 2005, early evening

I almost never use spotlight. The cmd-space short-cut on my computer opens Quicksilver.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. Ok, I will be the first to admit the UI inconsistencies and the lack of any control over how it works. But damn is it useful and fast. I wish there was a spotlight for my brain. What intrigues me most about Spotlight is how it drives “virtual” folders and “searches” in OS X. And it will only get better.

I use Quicksilver these days mostly (Cmd + Enter…finally found ‘Enter’ for something useful) though. I am still dumbfounded as to why its free.

  2. Invoking Quicksilver with a single press of ctrl will change your life.

Spotlight would be nice if everything had the proper metadata. It’s handy to dig up that old resume you know is somewhere…

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
