Ask.Mefi: Do I report my boyfriend to HR? ⇒

   12 December 2005, early evening

How is this even a dilemma? Some people have their priorities ass-backwards. It is funny seeing such a consensus on Metafilter.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. Well one thing comes out of this, and its that ask Mefi respondants are quite mature. As any other message board would have cussed her out with a mix of death threats, naming her rancid sexual organs, or just plan called her an idiot.

  2. Trust me Victor when I say this thread is by no means a good example of what Metafilter is actually like. People are slightly better behaved on Ask Metafilter, but on the Metafilter site proper, people act like raving lunatics. Though I agree, it’s not as bad as other forums out there.

  3. there’s a lot of dumb post-rationalization going on in that thread, like “don’t report him because the rule is stupid”.

I’m not saying I think she should report him; I totally agree that the right answer is to not. But for fuck’s sake, don’t not-report him because you think the rule is stupid, do it because he’s more important to you than the company is and you are content to lose your job over protecting your significant other if it comes down to it!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
