WINE Arrives for Intel Macs. ⇒

   8 February 2006, lunch time

Running Windows applications natively on a Mac is cool and all. Well, that is until you stop and think about it for a moment and realize people use Macs to get away from all the lame applications for Windows. This link was found via Waxy.org.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. But wouldn’t being able to use windows applications on a mac be a good way to get people to switch over? This is like a possible solution to the myth many computer users have about macs being unable to do a lot of things a windows machine can do. Or does wine only run like simple windows programs?

  2. Back when I had a Mac, there was the odd application I needed which was only available for Windows. I found having an emulator to be a great convenience.

  3. But all of this is moot when Intel comes out with the 64bit version (Merom) of their current line which promise virtualization at a hardware level. Or am I missing something?

But this is wonderful as well. I am all for running Windows apps without running Windows. Dual boot is overrated.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
