Schneier on Security: School Bus Drivers to Foil Terrorist Plots. ⇒
21 February 2006, early afternoon
Schneier seems to be one of the few people really frustrated with how America wastes money on 'protecting' its citizens.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
On the other hand, I don’t think I’ve seen Schneier write much positive about anything. Granted, all security people are like that and even he was incredibly self-critical in ‘Secrets & Lies’ (which is a solid book).

It seems like the U.S government is going to fund more towards defending against terrorism than its own healthcare system.

Seems like? You guys amuse me. You have to understand that our government spends by far more money on the military and defense than it even comes close to spending on anything else. Like, they aren’t even in the same universe.

America could probably blow up the moon if they felt so inclined. That kind of firepower doesn’t come cheap.

He’s not the only one that cares. He’s just one of the few who speak out to where anyone listens.
We waste more money on frivolous ideas and research in one year than probably a 1/3 of the world makes in a decade.

If the United States keeps on spending a large portion of its GDP with twin budget deficit (deficit in its current-account and balance of payment account since 2000) towards defending against terrorism, then, China does not need four more decades (as mentioned in the 20th edition of The Economist, The world in 2006) to pass the United States to lead the world.

Terrorism Vs National Defense
Would it be reasonable to say that the fund received for fighting against terrorism is just a part of the total fund received for nation defense?

Not really, as some things like Homeland Security aren’t a part of the military spending. So it’s an additional cost on top of the Defense budget. I can’t remember the categorization, but I think it goes under “General Government” spending.
