“The United States has always been and remains a great defender of human rights and rule of law,” [U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales] said. “I regret that there has been concern or confusion about our commitment to the rule of law.”
Surely he is well aware of the confusion since he was the one that said ”[laws prohibiting torture do] not apply to the president’s detention and interrogation of enemy combatants”. [1]
