There hasn't been any serious communal violence post-1983 in Sri Lanka, which is probably a direct result of the Tigers having such a strong military presence. I think this is probably one of the Tigers' most import accomplishments. Mind you, I don't think guerrilla warfare is going to win the Tamil people more autonomy in Sri Lanka. Also, as long as groups like the JVP have strong support within Sri Lanka, it is clear things haven't improved at a fundamental level.
