Young Americans Geographically Illiterate, Survey Suggests. ⇒

   2 May 2006, early evening

Some of the popular answers are laughable. Only 46% of the people who did the poll knew Sudan was in Africa! You can take the survey yourself at the site.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. Forget Sudan, what about this part of the article?

Take Iraq, for example. Despite nearly constant news coverage since the war there began in 2003, 63 percent of Americans aged 18 to 24 failed to correctly locate the country on a map of the Middle East.

How many wars do they need to have with Iraq before they know where it is?

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
