Buchanan is a nut. He once suggested building a “great wall” between the US and Canada. Though I think he’s pretty much an idiot, I can respect him for not being a complete ham to the Republican party. He actually disagrees with Republican policies from time to time and that’s the reason he has to write in the third-string magazines of conservative america. You don’t get to write for the National Review unless you can vigorously endorse anything the Bush whitehouse throws at you.
And although I see his point in the article, can you really blame Israel for not giving money to a party that thinks that Israel shouldn’t be allowed to exist?

Does the aid money go to Hamas, or to the people they govern? I agree it makes little sense to fund a government that wants to destroy you, but I am not sure the aid that was cut off is going to buy Hamas guns. I think it makes sense for Israel to improve the living conditions of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. It really does look they are punishing the people in the region for voting in Hamas. I don't think that is in their best interest, or the United States. It's a complicated issue and I don't think the US and Israel are handling it well.
