I suppose Sajid Mahmood and Monty “Sikh and Destroy” Panesar are proof that you can make it in English cricket while being Asian. I think its wonderful. Can’t wait to see Monty in Australia in November. Also, until recently Nasser Hussain, an Indian born Muslim, was the captain of England. And since these players are representing England, its only natural that fans would identify more with England than say Pakistan or India.

I don’t think you need a few brown people on the team for other brown people to take notice, but I am sure it helps. I think the fact for a fairly long time England’s team just wasn’t worth cheering for may have contributed to fans looking elsewhere for people to cheer for. Who wouldn’t want to cheer for Pakistan or India? They are pretty kick ass teams.
