A painting of me

Noam Chomsky Portrait at Daily Dose of Imagery. ⇒

   22 November 2004, early evening

I think this would have been a very interesting talk to attend.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. Very good picture, amazing clarity.

  2. Holocaust deniers are always a great listen.

  3. What?

  4. I agree my comment was a a bit over the top. It just depends on your perspective. I actually have read some of his writings (mostly regarding 9/11 and the Middle east) and find agreeing with him on occassions and disgusted othertimes.

But you are free to form your opinions from the following links as to this particular issue:

    Chomsky and deception

    Holocaust denial

    Holocaust denial again

    Faurisson Affair

The pieces are rather longish and not very clear reading. But yes form your own conclusions.

  5. And oh as far as Holocaust deniers being “a good listen”, we had a bunch of them come to my high school. They were allowed to speak in our classrooms (freedom of speech), and were a very interesting bunch.

Then again I may be a bit biased towards the Jewish people. I went to a high school attended by many jewish students (and of other faiths as well – a very diverse school racially, religiously, and economically). I was also involved in getting one of our senior dances cancelled because it was called “The Crystal Night”, which offended many of my friends. The obvious reference was to kristallnacht.

So I just don’t take Holocaust deniers or their brethren very seriously. And that includes folks who actually help others spread this nonsense.

  6. And none of this has anything to do with your link and the portrait (which is quite excellent). Sorry for being off-topic. And for the endless comments. And for being such a conversation killer.

  7. I saw him speak about American Imperialism at McMaster University a couple years ago. On the whole, I would not consider him to be a particularly captivating speaker, but he does possess an amazingly dry sense of humour. I thought he was absolutely hilarious, but about 98% of the people there didn’t seem to appreciate his sarcastic candor.

  8. I don’t think it is particularly off-topic, considering people post some pretty random comments here. I had actually never heard Chomsky referred to as a Holocaust denier before. Quite interesting. I’m surprised no one here has sprung to his defence yet.

  9. Yeah, I think that calling him an ‘holocaust denier’ was a bit crude. Us humans are prone to a bit of sensationalism now and then.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
