BlogTO discusses 24 hour subway service in Toronto. ⇒
21 September 2006, late afternoon
Having the trains stop an hour before last call always struck me as foolish. In Tokyo, trains stop at 12:00, but since you can party straight to 5:00, it's not such a big deal.
This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.
Having the subways stop before you’re done working in the studio sucks even more!

They interviewed a TTC desk jockey on CBC radio this morning—he confirmed that the idea is being discussed, but that it isn’t possible until the TTC adds an extra track to all of it’s subway lines and/or updates its signal system. This is so workers can do track maintenance while trains are operating, not just overnight, which is when it’s currently done.
The TTC does have plans to do this work. But when is it all scheduled to be completed, you ask? 2016! That’s right, 2016. So don’t hold your breath.

I didn’t hear anything about that extra track necessity. They said they were going to try it out on the yonge (yellow) line and have a report out by early 2007. They mentioned that it would be much easier to perform maintenance and other duties after 2016 when the automatic signalling system is installed on the bloor/yonge lines and trains going both directions can share one track, leaving the other one open for work. Without that ability it’ll take more to work out the scheduling and logistics of it I suppose.
The useless purple line already has automatic signalling, though.
