  1. I’m usually all for architectural improvements, but I can’t help feeling a bit sad the senior citizens in the area. I worked at the Don Mills Centre for approximately 7 years. Even during the worst snow storms, the senior community would walk over to the centre, either for groceries or simply just to get out and see some familiar faces – it’s part of their daily routine. I’m all for “lifestyle centres” simply because they look nicer than a flat, boxy mall, but I feel like this won’t cater to the needs of the aging neighbourhood. Why? Because they’re old and they don’t matter? Ugh.

  2. It seems like our city planners are good at ignoring what people in the area actually want.

  3. Take it back, Ramanan. They can only do so much given the limited man power and resources.

I remember going to Don Mills Centre during lunch time and Stacy is right, all the old senior would be hanging out there. It was real nice to see.

  4. I drove by it tonight.. It’s such a sad sight! :(

  5. I drove by it this morning… it’s still a sad sight! :(

  6. Absolutely—the demolition of the Don Mills Centre has seriously impacted the lives of thousands of residents, especially many seniors and those who came there every day in their wheelchairs or scooters, who now have no place to shop or socialize. Cadillac Fairview and the City ignored the many voices of protest, including a 5,000-signature petition. The Central Don Mills Secondary Plan was ignored, too. Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
