I heard him speak when he was in Canada last, at an event in Waterloo. He was of the opinion the only way forward for the Tamil people was with the LTTE. Of course, a lot can change in a few years. Just before his death he was criticizing the way rich Tamils send their children to foreign countries to live and learn, while it is the poor who are forced to suffer the civil war. In particular, he pointed out that the leader of the LTTE's children are not in Sri Lanka. So he was hardly a LTTE mouth piece. Update: I've been told I should add a disclaimer stating that the Independent is a crap web site. It very well might be. In case you didn't know, you can't believe everything you read on the Internet. (The Independent does actually make a lot of shit up.) Update: UTHR(J) suspects the government was behind the killing. And that actually makes a lot of sense, sadly. Sri Lanka is fucked up.
