A painting of me

You can now take your cell phone number with you when you decide to leave a cell phone carrier. ⇒

  1. Oh wow, you guys didn’t have this? It’s one of those things that once you have it, it’s like, wait, why wasn’t it this way all along?

  2. I’ve been counting down the months. I’m surprised the CRTC actually followed through on their deadline.

  3. This was announced ages ago, but they are just acting on it now. I’m hoping we’ll start seeing much better plans up here now that you can just pick up and leave with your number when your plan starts to suck — assuming you are without a contract anyway.

  4. Too late. Most carriers predicted this and already put in place mechanisms to deter people from changing. Such as the ‘administration’ fee required to take the number with you. And many of the new plans have clauses in them that have severe penalties if you cancel the contract and take the number with you to go elsewhere, rather than just canceling the contract or something to that effect.

Sounds good on paper, less good to your wallet.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
