Artist says iPhone ad was a rip-off. ⇒

Apple's iPhone ad is a copy -- more or less -- of a short film by artist Christian Marclay. John Gruber doesn't consider what happened sleazy, but I think it most definitely is. Apple copied the entire premise of Marclay's work, they just used different clips. If someone reshot Apple's iconic 1984 ad, would it be a copy? A homage? A rip-off? No matter what you think about that, I am certain Apple's reaction in all cases would be the same: they aren't shy about litigation. Also, Gruber's comparison to the Postal Service incident isn't appropriate in this case: the people that did the music video also produced the advert. What makes this advert compelling: the concept or the clips? This link was found via Kottke.
