A List Apart: Articles: Findings From the Web Design Survey. ⇒

   17 October 2007, mid-morning

This is the survey I didn't bother with because the ethnicity question struck me as poorly worded and stupid. Apparently 86% of the A List Apart Crowd are White, and 82% are male. I'm not too surprised.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. White Dudes Making Web Sites.

  2. the findings are pretty interesting. I haven’t gone through it in detail, but do they ever address how acurate their findings are? i.e. how do they control for multiple responses from the same person? 33,000 response rate is extraordinarily high, but I guess the sample size must be a gazillion.

  3. They basically advertised the survey on A List Apart, and the blogs of the people that contribute to A List Apart; people who read A List Apart or those blogs would then link to the survey — like me. This isn’t a good way to sample. (Well, unless this readership happened to be a random sample of the web design community at large I suppose.) I think it’s an interesting reflection on just how White and Male this whole crowd is.

And I think you mean population size. The sample is who they pick. Or am I mixing up stats terms.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
